Sorry for going dark, Curl Chasers but I've been feeling a bit out of it lately. I wasn't sleeping well or feeling well for that matter. While I've been away, I've been doing a bit of experimenting. Shocking as it may seem, there are more things that interest me other than natural hair.
Take natural perfume...as in the kind you make at home with a makeshift double boiler. Yep, that's right. I tried my hand at making a natural perfume solid, and I only messed up a little. I made Too much! I failed to reread the recipe Before I started. I mean I remembered to mix my essential oils beforehand to save time and give me an idea of what it would smell like. The scent was delightful even though I didn't end up with the oils that I wanted originally except for one. I'd always planned on using lavender oil ever since I bought some to make a refresher spray (works pretty well I might add), but I wanted Rose Geranium and Neroli or Patchuli. Heck, I'd have even taken Sandalwood oil since it's suppose to have a wondermous smell. However, I ended up with Clary Sage and Clove oil. I had resigned myself to these two if I a. couldn't find the others or b. my pocketbook couldn't afford the others. Neroli is hecka expensive, so if I ever buy it, it will be for a crazy good reason (like my wedding). I couldn't find the geranium oil, and I got the Clary Sage for a steal since it was a tester. For those of you who've never smelled Clary Sage oil, it smells like a nut got attack by merlot and the merlot won. It's kind of a strong nutty wine scent, which I wasn't crazy about at all. It smells better outside the bottle, but it gave me the exact scent I was looking for when mixed in the perfume. As for the clove oil, I'm glad Thanksgiving is only about a month away because it has me wanting pumpkin pie pretty badly. Most of you know that Lavender is soothing and rather pleasant. It's a tad strong at first but it mellows easily making it a great top note. I used 25 drops altogether which I then mixed with a tablespoon of evco and scented soy wax each. Once I read the recipe again, I discovered that I was only supposed to use two teaspoons of each which might explain why it wouldn't fit into one container. I had a bit of a scare when I couldn't get the top off of one of the containers after it hardened. Needless to say, my big bro got it open and the rest was history. The moral of this story: always read the recipe even if you think you know it by heart and homemade perfume is awesome sauce. I love that I can layer it and how the scent changes as time passes. Top note: Lavender. Middle note: Clary Sage. Base notes: Clove, Coconut, and Vanilla. Will I do it again (right this time)? Yes!!!
As for "The Hair", she now has a name and I've been experimenting with her as well. Yes, her name is Jada and Jada is in love...with a product that is. She's crazy about Design Essentials' Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion. I received a sample from a Curlmart order (more on that later). I also got a sample of Mop Top's Curly Custard. I'm not sure how I feel about the smell. It's not bad but it's...different. My hair loves it though and the ingredients are yummy (not that I tasted it but they're natural). I'm on the fence about whether or not to try the sample of Miss Jessie's Soft Curls. I'm not super impressed with the ingredient list and the only review I could find was not encouraging so we'll see. I'll be doing my first real
braid out tomorrow, so fingers crossed. On an interesting note, I haven't hennaed this month nor shall I, but I hair is almost armpit length when stretched (in it's curly state I don't straighten). *insert high-pitched squeal of excitement here* Think I can make it to bra strap length by my b-day? I'm certainly going to try :)
